1. What are valuable items and how should I carry them?

Valuables items are commercial and personal documents, keys, computers or other electronic devices, cameras or video cameras, money, jewellery, musical instruments, and any other items that have a great value for a passenger. It is advisable to carry such items in hand luggage (the airline is not responsible for carriage of valuables) or to insure the baggage for an extra charge.

2. How many and what medicines can I have when travelling by plane?

It is advisable to have non-prescription medicines only for the period of the travel; it is also advisable to keep medicines in their original packaging (i.e. medicines can be removed from the paper boxes, but then they must be packed in leaflets. It is important that the original printed full name of the medicines can always be seen). Do not forget the rules on carriage of liquid medicines (see Carriage of Liquids). If you will need prescription medicines during the travel, make sure to take the prescription book or a doctor’s certificate, which confirms that the carried medicines belong to the passenger and are prescribed by a doctor and that their amount is required for treatment.

3. How much cash can I have when travelling by plane?

You can have as much cash as you want, but if you are going to enter the EU or leave it having more than 10 000 euros in cash (or its equivalent in another currency), you must declare it to the customs officials.

4. What amount of alcoholic beverages is allowed to carry by plane?

The allowed amount of alcoholic beverages may vary depending on national regulations. However, under EU rules, the amount of alcoholic beverages which does not need to be declared and proved that it is intended for personal use is:

• 10 litres of spirits;

• 20 litres of fortified wine;

• 90 litres of wine (of which no more than 60 litres of sparkling wine);

• 110 litres of beer.

If a larger amount of alcoholic beverages is carried than the amount allowed for personal use, the passenger may be asked to prove that the goods are intended for personal use and provide proof of purchase (a receipt or a VAT invoice).

Note. Only passengers aged 18 and older can carry alcoholic beverages.

5. How much tobacco can I carry when traveling by plane?

The allowed tobacco content may vary depending on national regulations. However, under the EU rules, the amount which does not need to be declared and proved that it is intended for personal use is:

• 800 cigarettes;

• 400 cigarillos;

• 200 cigars;

• 1 kg of tobacco.

If a larger amount of tobacco is carried than the amount allowed for personal use, the passenger may be asked to prove that the goods are intended for personal use and provide proof of purchase (a receipt or a VAT invoice).

Note. Only passengers aged 18 and older can carry tobacco.
